Bio: My name is Brigid O Shea and I’m a limerick born artist.I work in oils, pencil, watercolour, acrylic and calligraphy which I also teach.I get my inspiration from the surrounding areas near where I live.Places like Curraghchase Forest Park and the river Shannon have featured heavily in my work in recent years.I’m fascinated by light and colour and how it changes every hour and every day .I have reflected that in a series of paintings of the river Shannon. I love walking and hiking and I draw inspiration from the outdoors. Ireland is full of beauty and when weather permits I love to do plein air.I do portrait commissions in oils and in pencil of pets and children.I love still life work.I have also done calligraphy work on commission.Last year I took part in Art Source in the RDS.I had a stand there. It was great meeting so many people interested in art.I loved it.Since retiring I’ve made it my goal to paint or draw every dayI loved contributing to ‘Handle with Care ‘Project. My painting is called ‘Speedwell.’ This tiny little blue flower called speedwell. grows wild. Historically speedwell is regarded as a symbol of good luck and Blessings when given to expectant mothers. It was believed they would be blessed with positive experiences and would return safe to their loved ones. The flower symbolises protection and care for both mother and her unborn child embodying the communities support during this significant life change. It’s associated with fertility and is thought to promote maternal health and wellbeing and good fortune.I wish all of the above to all the expectant mothers who come here.
